FedEx Shipping Error: "ERROR: [1000] Authentication Failed." [Click here for latest info]
UPS uses OAuth 2 security. This means, rather than a 3rd party like us simply storing a password that you use to access UPS, you must login to UPS and be assigned a TOKEN by them.
The Token has a limited lifespan and will only last for a finite period. That is a security measure. After a while you must re-create the Token. An expired Token is one that has passed its expiration date and can no longer be used. This can happen with authentication Tokens used for applications, APIs, or services.
Why do Tokens expire?
- Expiration Date Reached: Typically, UPS Auth Tokens have a validity period of six months.
- Failing to renew before this period can lead to expiration.
- Account Changes: Modifications to your UPS account settings, such as updating payment methods or altering account information, can render the current Auth Token invalid.
- Inactivity: Extended periods of inactivity on your UPS Worldship account trigger automatic expiration as a security measure to prevent unauthorized access.
- Security Breaches: If a security threat is detected, UPS may proactively expire your Auth Token to protect your account.
- A discrepancy with the login credentials used for UPS.com.
- The user being blocked by UPS after too many invalid login attempts.
The overall point is: The Token can expire for any reason by UPS. The original Token creates REFRESH Tokens which extend the life. But eventually you must re-authenticate with UPS to create a new Token.
